Videos of Los Angeles-based artist Chase Langford.
Chase Langford born in Pontiac, Michigan, is a Los Angeles-based artist well known for his geographically inspired paintings. He studied cartography earning a BA from UC Santa Barbara in Geography then worked as a cartographer at UCLA.
Starting with his Map Paintings he literally reinterpreted geography by taking selected features from maps and filled in the reconfigured shapes in a flurry of color and movement creating a fresh take on familiar geographic forms. This followed with series that moved even deeper into pure abstraction with his Coldwater, Mulholland, and Scrape series which all lead to his Morphic series, now the core focus of his painting today.

CHASE LANGFORD - "LAND MARKS" - May 5 - 21, 2016 Press release from Foster/White: Chase Langford’s painting practice emerges from a lifelong fascination with the endlessly varied forms of the natural world. This fascination began during childhood, and grew rapidly; by his teens, Langford had gathered a personal collection of over 1000 atlases and maps. His cartographic impulse quickly carried o...

Most helpful art video for me this year
The house in the hills is nicer
Amazing!❤
You have such a beautiful house, Chase. Thank you for showing us. 😊
Thank you for this tips!!!
You're so welcome!
such a beautiful house. your paintings oh my ! stupendous
Thank you so much 😀
Chase, this is so helpful to find. Really appreciate the level of details in your offering here. Incredibly generous to share your time for those of us beginning.
My pleasure!
I find myself building alot of of stuff like this for my studio too. One of the most handy tools is a 20v battery 16 gauge dewault finishing nail/brad gun. It works great if you make your own frames or panels too.
wow, that's a lot to do. I have all my canvases stretched for me or panels made. If I did them they'd be pretty bad. lol
Intersting art too, you should check out Charles Seliger.
Thanks for the tips I have a very similar space, Skylights are so key, I'm jealous. I have a textured ceiling too which cuts down on good lighting. Maybe skylights someday...
Gay life style is demonic.
Thanks for all your helpful tips and advice. Great video.
Glad it was helpful!
Loved your home. Enjoyed hearing you mentioning Lester Hall and Russell, New Zealand for your gallery wall. My partner and I own a Lester Hall and have a holiday house in Russell. We visited Palm Springs last Oct during Modernism Week and loved it! We will return!
oh wow... I've never met another owner of a Lester Hall.
I am redoing the insulation and drywall in my studio, which means I had to move out completely. So now I get to re-think the lighting and what I’m going to bring back in. I really appreciate your tips! It never occurred to me to go all white. I’m going to have to ponder that one. I have wheels on almost everything. I love having rolling carts filled with different types of supplies so I can roll them up to my work area, depending on what I’m doing at the time. One is all of my colored pencils and current sketchbooks, for example. IKEA used to sell the best little clip on lights with really long cords. I’m glad I stocked up because I can’t find them anymore. So useful. And I’m going to create a book from my art. Great idea. Shutterfly often has discounts on little photo books.
What a lovely home. Don’t worry about the magnesium. It won’t start on fire until 750 degree F. You are a great artist. You guys have done a great job with the decorating and furniture selection.
Oh thank you!
I love 7 Lakes CC and this home. However, the video got too quickly into details and objects. Architecture is always hard to show on camera. It should have started by walking straight to the glass wall and the view which is the wow factor - 7 Lakes has the best views - and then shown a return long shot from the other side of the fairway so we could see the whole house. If allowed, a drone shot would give us more wow and our bearings. Then do the details.
that's all very good advice.
New to your channel. Great advice thanks.
Thanks for the sub!
Really wish we could get the same content from digital artists and what their studios look like
Hello Chase--thank you for the info and tour of your studio space. Im in the midst of changing my home space to establish my studio. I work in prettu large pieces. But Im trying to do two mediums, Acrylic and Encaustic. This is a problem. Other problem--an old house with light issues and exhaust issues--for the encaustic and other toxic paint issues. AND the old house--my space is cut up into narrow spaces--sigh... I use a large table. But I would prefer to use an easel like yours--Ive had a hard time finding a really SOLID easel like yours. I dont find easels with solid bases and frames that hold a canvas securely. Can you share the brand names and where you purchased? I think you reenforced yours--but they still seem to be designed and built better than others I find in stores. Looks like you get a lot of your paint and materials at Blick. Are you using oils or acrylics? Looks like Oils because I am not recognizing the packaging. Great video---also liked the storage. I have limited space for storage. The aluminum rods is great. I also saw your other video about packaging paintings for shipping. I wish I had seen that a couple years ago. I was trying to write down the name of the material you wrap a painting with first. I am sure I heard/spelled it wrong. Glascine? Thanks much--Be Well Barbara
brand is Best from Blick Art Store. Glassine.
Anal retentive much?
Hi I am in film we are looking for a 1960 Style home to film In once a month for a year. Would you be interested in your home being filmed in?
we sold this house in 2021
Thank you very much. 😊
Thank you very much, I really like the way you've organised the space. I'm starting to reorganise everything in my studio and I've found lots of good ideas. I also like putting labels on all the drawers and storage boxes, it saves a lot of time and peace of mind.
You are such an honest humble artist, it is nice to hear your recommendations. Thanks a lot.
I love your houses and your art. We're about to move into a mid 20th century home, albeit somewhat more modest than yours! However you have given me some inspiration for design. Cheers from Brisbane Australia.
I like how the bedroom lamps tie in so nicely to the painting over the bed (at about 6:25).
that was very intentional. :)
@@ChaseLangfordArtist I've done similar artwork tie-ins myself. I love harmony. By the way, Chase, you have a great home and I am very happy for you!
Practical indeed but very cold/clinical vibe. Thanks for the tips 🌈
I didn't think i would find such good advice on RUclips! Thank you. (Just started planning the construction of a studio for visiting artists.)
Be safe and careful.😊👍🙏
Going to go watch the other video of the other home in Palm Springs.😊👍
And they can always come by and and if he wants to leave all the books in his office that is ok and his studio can stay will let him have a key to it.😊👍
If they ever sell it to me I want to find any pieces of furniture that was in there when they 1st built it and make it a show home like you were walking into 1965.😊👍
You let those owners know that if they ever want to sell the place give me a call it will be my retirement home .😊👍❤️
That place is so awesome and thank you for showing me the place.😊👍
Great video, packed with relevant useful information. Your meticulously clean white space is beautiful. Thank you for all of the ideas.
Even though at times I don't comment, I just never tire of seeing this one particular video..I do like your other videos don't get me wrong, but this is most educational in regards on how to set up a studio and or improve in this case my small studio. I thank you!
Thank you so much for your generous tips on studio organization! I need to reorganize my modest home studio to accommodate a series of larger work and your videos are making me excited to optimize my space. Love how creatively you modify existing materials to meet your needs. Instant sub!
Doesn't get any better than this. Such love and care radiates out to us all. Thanks for sharing.
You are so kind
Thank you this for insight, it's always amazing to see the actual studio where all the creative work takes place.
thanks. I have some other videos that explain how I set up my studio.
Excellent advice
Glad you think so!
6:20 Was the color pallet of the room inspired by the painting, or was the painting completed to complement the room? Thanks for sharing your home.
by the painting. the art comes first.
Woah. You’ve been busy. Looks fantastic. 😮
Thank you so much! I love your energy!
So glad!
A well-thought-out studio. Thank you for sharing! xox

Thank you so much.
Chase, I just came across your videos and boy I wish I’d seen this studio advice a month ago. I have been struggling to organize my studio and now I know how I want to change up some of it! Your work is stunning BTW
Glad you it helpful. I'm always making changes to my studio.
